S2, E3: Katie Pendergrast and Erin Nasmyth, Adoption Support Alliance

Katie Pendergrast, Erin Nasmyth

Katie Pendergrast joins the podcast with Erin Nasmyth from Adoption Support Alliance. They discuss areas of their work where they help adoptive families through the challenges of building their forever families. ASA provides adoption-competent counseling, support groups for adoptees and adoptive families, classes to educate pre and post adoption and hosts community building events for adoptive families, with a vision  to ensure that all adoptive families get the support they need to thrive.

Katie Pendergrast is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and mother of four, two biological (Colin and Owen) and two internationally adopted (Quinn and Marin), children. After her adopted children joined the family, Katie recognized the great need in the adoption community for support and counseling services.

She was connected with the newly formed Adoption Support Alliance where she began to serve on the board sharing her clinical expertise.  Three years later, Katie now serves as the ASA board chair. Additionally, Katie completes home studies and post-placement reports through Triangle Adoption Services.

Erin Nasmyth is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who co-founded Adoption Support Alliance in 2014 to fill a void in the services and support available to adoptive families.

Erin’s first experience with adoption came during high school, when her family was living overseas and she decided to volunteer at orphanages in China and Vietnam. She was 15 years old, surrounded by lots of children who needed a home, and she knew she’d found her calling. When she came back to the states, she dedicated her career to helping children and parents build strong, thriving families.

She also conducts home studies through Triangle Adoption Services and produces post-placement reports for families pursuing adoption.

Adoption Support Alliance is a nonprofit organization established in 2014 to help adoptive families through the challenges of building their forever families.  ASA provides adoption-competent counseling, support groups for adoptees and adoptive families, classes to educate pre and post adoption and hosts community building events for adoptive families.  Our vision is to ensure all adoptive families get the support they need to thrive.
